August 2008 Archives

I just discovered one website that I could add high quality of Video and get the code to embed on the website. Vimeo.com is what I found from some website in the past, they offer me about 500 Megs of video and they also offer HD or High Definition of Video. So I already have some video on them. And I wish to add more video soon.

Then their website also teach me how to make video from Window Movie Maker too so I am very happy to add some video of the tourists every trip so that their family back home could enjoy watching video of their friends, family, son or daughter while they are in our Mahout Training Course.

So I just add some video of Tina, Tomokazu and other tourists in our mahout training course a couple day ago..

There are so many tourists shed their tears before leaving the camp, just like Tina and other Japanese tourists leaving the camp today with big tears.

Some Japaneses today kept crying while they are on elephants, Tina she cried even on the second day already and then she could not stop her tears on the last day. So today every one at the camp are having the great time with elephants here. I wish you guys are coming back for this wonderful creator again in the future..

So this is to encourage our staff to do the best for every one who travel to the camp and we promise that we will provide good care for the elephants too.

Just add some photos taken this morning of the Japanese group in our three day mahout training course during 28-30 of August. There are seven tourists in their group.

These tourists especially come along from Japan to Thailand for the Mahout Training Course and then they have to fly back to Japan when finish the course.. I had asked their tour guide who brought them to the camp, these tourist just arrived in Bangkok about 11:00 Pm. and check in at the hotel about 01:00 Am. and then they had to wake up very early in order to take plane from Bangkoko to Lampang so they quite arrived in Lampang a bit late so they missed the training program in the morning on the first day, but anyway they are at the camp now.

I just realize about Japanese people, they are very hard working people and they quite have very short holiday. Some people just fly to Japan to Thailand and to the camp for the training course and then fly back to Japan to start working next day, but it takes about six hours to Thailand.

IMG_8611
Went to the forest with Toni, Nut and Swang to collect their elephant this morning.. Taking some photo of Prachaub while she was waiting for us to give her foods. Seeing us with sugarcane making Prachaub very happy.

IMG_7508
It was such a beautiful morning so I went to the forest with our tourists who participating in our mahout training course, Tina and Toni lovely people from Melbourne Australia. They sent me email to request six day mahout training course and then I did arrange them this special course with Jojo and Prachaub as their elephant..

I adds some photos of  Tina and write some entry as I thought Tina will not be able to ride on Jojo after a couple day. The thing is true that today said to me that she want to take a rest for a day and she might be able to ride on her beloved elephant again as  Tina has big pains on her legs after riding on Jojo, but she is still very happy and Toni is still riding on his elephant Prachaub.

The article title is " Jojo 's Mojo" they article is about the mahout training course and some tourists that they joined the course together and telling the story of Jojo.. I wish that I can copy that newspaper so that I can show you guy who is the fan of elephants at Thai Elephant Conservation Center..

On this entry I just want to show you how is Tina looks like after getting on Jojo!!!!!!  (T-T)

Before

Hi every body I just want to present some videos that I took it this morning while I fed Prathida and Jojo with peanuts. Do you know how much the elephants love it. The elephants love to eat salty food as in the wild the elephants eat " salt lick" so that to add some calcium in their body  and keep them healthy. so what I can do is to buy some peanuts and add some salt while boiled.

Prathida and Jojo love it..

John is teaching Prathida how to eat peanuts properly....

Jojo comes and join Prathida..
I think it's very long not to meet Sridor Yai in the forest and bath so today morning I went to the forest with my six tourists in the Mahout Training Course. We met muddy Sridor Yai was waiting for his mahout to bring him first banana. As last night it was quite very heavy and long rain so all elephants at the camp covered themself with mud and dirts. It takes a little longer to clean it.

IMG_6188
I took these photos this morning as Prathida is squirting the water to tourists who join in our mahout training course.. Prathida is the best of elephant in water fight.. I think a lot of people who has been her agree with me..

IMG_6182
I just want to introduce our friend and elephant lover from Japan who have been visiting the camp and participate in the three day mahout training course over three time now.. at the first time Tomokazu he came to the camp with his dad and now he just fly to Tokyo to Thailand and to elephant camp by himself..

Tomokazu usually visits the zoo in Japan and Ishihara Elephant Kingdom there he can meet Thai Elephants and Mahouts.. I think he really want to be mahout of elephant in Japan as he loves to be back to the camp for his elephant " Singha Khon" When he get to the camp he always tell the story of elephant in Japan and he loves to write the dairy of elephant..

Tomokazu he is very clever bad with great memory brain as he can remember every things about elephant that I told him in the past even he can remember many special elephants at the camp like story of Prathida, Wanalee, Jojo, Prachaub, Singha Khon, Wana, Sridor tadang and some elephants in Japan Zoo too. I wish his dad George is reading this entry about his son having great time with elephant over here..

IMG_5588
Tle is real elephant lover at the camp, she was married with John the Mahout of Prathida several year ago. Tle she studied the same University as me but different years, but I met her some time and she came to the camp to take internship and she found that she loves elephant especially Prathida that why she met John and they were married afterward.

I think Prathida bring them together wherever you are, the elephant will take you to work together. Tle she loves Prathida so much  and I always see her buy some snacks or Peanut for her beloved elephants..

So yesterday I just bought raw peanuts and ask for Tle to help me to cook it before feeding elephants. Actaully we can feed elephants with raw one, but It 's better to be cooked as we can add some salts there. Afterward we give the peanuts to all elephants and mahouts to eat and it's seems 300 Baht of Peanuts is not enough for them.

To Mark from Canada who give me money to buy peanuts, I wish you are reading this website and see what are we doing for elephants and you. I wish to see some comments from you too.

Lorna is Helen's friends just has fantastic time with Jojo and she shed her tear before leaving my handsome elephant Jojo..

Morning bath of Wana

Maew and his tourist are helping each other to clean their elephant after Wana she puts the mud on her body to repel the insect or keep cool. Maew is greatest mahout as since he starts working at the camp many year ago, only a few day that he took his day off and left Wana as he loves his elephant so much. Wana she is doing her good job as in the past she is very naughty elephant, she had first mahout was not Maew, but other guy, Wana shake him down the floor and broke his hand so Maew was Assigned as Wana's Mahout  so far...

IMG_4193
Today I am so happy to welcome Helen back to Thai Elephant Conservation Center. As one of real fan of Prathida so Helen comes back for her elephant a couple year ago. But it's a bit sad that told me that she will not come back in a couple year as she plan to get marry and has baby so she has to wait for several year like Leah from Australia she has to wait for lovely son growing bigger so that she can take her son to ride on elephant...

Helen she is from England and working as the teacher, I think she is a great teacher as she loves elephants she must be very kind :P

So this time she convinces her friend to come with her and I just assign Jojo as Helen elephant and she loves Jojo anyway every body loves Jojo right????

IMG_4101
Hi Mark I wish you are reading the website as I just bought and fed Pang Kod and her friends with Peanuts a couple day. Thank you very much for sending the money to buy peanuts for the elephants as now the local people are harvesting the peanuts so I just bought it for only 200 baht with very big sack and then I will buy other 300 hundreds baht more in a couple day. I will wait and buy it for the elephants again when we start the course for the new tourists in a couple day so that those people will realize what elephants love to eat..

Note: Mark Womack from Canada participated in our mahout training course in December gave me some money to buy some food for his elephant Pang Kod so this what you and I can do for elephants even just a little bit, we can make elephants happy..

Sincerest thanks for Mark from Canada..

Supat Sutt and Pang Kod..

Today there are so many tourists visit the elephant show at Thai Elephant Conservation Center, especially the first show. There was one group of students who come from Chiang Rai to observe the activities at the camp.

After the show finished every one has the chance to take the pictures with elephants, it seems Jojo is the most popular elephant who the tourists want to take the pictures with. Like this group at the first, they looked like very scared of the size of Jojo, but once when the first girl dares to be very closed with Jojo and then other are brave enough to take the pictures with a whole group.

I think Jojo is very photogenic elephant at the camp...

Jojo shows off before the elephant show.
Quick thanks for Tania from Canada in our three day mahout training course during 13-15 of August 2008. She just loved it and said she will miss her elephant Wanalee forever..

IMG_2090

I just brought my tourists to visit the baby elephants AI and Seven on the way to elephant hospital, then we stop their to feed AI..Now AI and Seven are very strong baby elephant.. They will use their strong trunk to punch every one if they are too near those elephant.

This elephant also behaves to the stranger like this as they are not well trained yet, so we will start training them when they are about 3 years old which like to go the school..

IMG_1974
Just come back from the forest to pick up the elephants with seven of my tourist.. It seems there was too much rain this week after Buddhist Lent..

All elephants were very muddy this morning including Wanalee and Prachaub, so it gives mahout big jobs to clean their elephant in the river.. But rain also gives elephants plenty of foods and cleaner water than other season, but rainy season is off in a couple month and then cold and dry season starts..

There are so many tourists from West will influx to Thailand to avoid the winter in Europe, but here also it 's pretty cold in the morning, it's not good to bath elephants in the cool water anyway..So this time during May, June, July and August is the best season to come over here..

To all mothers in this world, I would like to give this photo as a gift of Thailand National Mother day. We regards Queen's birthday of 12 of August of every year as National Mother day in Thailand, so there are a lot of tourists bring their mother to visit elephants at Thai Elephant Conservation Center and it 's holiday in Thailand..

I wish all mothers in this world becomes very happy and healthy through your life.

Some people regards today to take their family to go shopping and buy some presents to give their mother to take about giving their children birth to see the world.

I call my mother several time this morning, but there was answer from her as there is no telephone signal... I think she is not working at the field, my mother is great woman. I love her so much, and I will try to call her again to see I miss and love you mama... Once day if I earn some money I will bring her to the sea as my Mom and Dad never been there before and they never come to visit me in Lampang, Now they live in Nan Province which is about 300 Km. away from Lampang. I usually visit them once a year. But anyway I regard every day is my mother's day.

I took this photo this morning as we practice to give some flower to some tourist as gift in National Mother so we tried to give Wanalee a flower and give it to Julie..

Note: Wanalee is very well trained to give some thing to the VIP anyway so she does not need to repeat this practice at all.

I just become inactive for a couple day after recovering from bad fever, but I still work even just recovered. Thank for all mahouts at the mahout training course who worked professionally for the tourists, they are such dedicated people for their elephants and job even it was very pouring rain a couple day ago. I do not know what to do for them, just show them and write about them on the website so you guys can learn what are we doing at the camp and elephant...

Today I woke up around 06:20 Am. I set my alarm to ring around 06:00 Am. and then I slept for about 20 minutes and then heading to the tourists and they were already there. When we went to into the forest, I just found and stopped to shoot  a couple shots of Prachaub who covered herself with mud as it was rain last night so Prachaub she is just very happy to play around, so Nut got his hard job to clean Prachaub afterward..

Here is shot of muddy Prachaub...

Hello my mama " Pang Yom"!!!

| 2 Comments | No TrackBacks
I think some of your guys who is the fan of Prathida do not know who is the mother of Prathida.. So I just would like to tell you about this elephant " Pang Yom"

I took their pictures when Pang Yom she came back from Elephant Hospital to send her tourists to visit the elephant hospital. Pang Yong is very strong and healthy elephant as she is now more than 60 years as she still work as the taxi elephant at the camp. ( Elephant can live upto 80 years old) She had at least 6 baby elephants and some of her baby was died and the last baby elephant is Prathida.

Personally Pang Yom is regarded as the best elephant ever in Thailand or the world, she is very clever elephant and she never gives her mahout headache, she is not stubborn. She loves the mahout so much, this is told by John as John used to be mahout of Pang Yong before. When Pang Yom walk with other elephant, she must walks a head of those elephants as it seems Prathida she is a like of her mother too as she always walks a head of elephant in our mahout training course into the forest, but now seems she walks slowly behind (she may be pregnant)

I used to talk with the head of the mahouts at the camp who have been working as the mahout at least 30 years with elephant, he told me about logging industry in the past. He said Pang Yom was selected as the leader of the herd in the forest when logging season is off about 4 months. In the past the elephant will work only in the cooler season or rainy season for about 8 months and other 4 months during February - May they elephants were released and stay free in the wild. So they will unchain elephants and let them stay together and in the herd, the elephant will select their leader so that other elephants will follow and some elephant could learn each other and bred in the forest. So Pang Yom was selected as the leader of the herd.

I did not see very often that Prathida is near her mother and seem they could recognize each other too as Prathida and Pang Yom make rumbling sound and Prathida she sniffed her mother. this is greatest opportunity of me to shoot these pictures and show you guys.. I wish to introduce and tell me story of elephants when you are at the camp.

Sincerest thanks,
Supat Sutti

Today I am feeling like 70 % after high fever, but yesterday is my wost day even. But today I am getting better after having a couple of anti fever tablets.

So today my brain is starting to work almost like normal and I can not wait till the time past by, so I just pick up some photo that I took it a couple day ago as we brought the elephant to graze the grasses around the blank.. There are many elephants walk pass us and I was with Prathida when she saw one elephant, Prathida just rush to that elephant without listening to John at all, two elephants were making very loud sound like they have never seen each other for very long time ago. So I ask John about that elephant why Prathida behaves like she is very happy to be with that elephant and John said because Prathida she loves that elephant so much..

I think none of you guys never know the name of that elephant. Can you tell me about that elephant's name??????? little hint she is female elephant (Prathida she loves female elephant?) That elephant is not Look Khang, Wanalee, Jojo, Prachaub, or Singhakhon..

IMG_9455
I just found this video on my laptop which is I used it very rarely, I found this video when one of the tourist who joined our mahout training course gave it to me. This video was film on the way back from Khao Yai National Park which is about 3 hours drive from Bangkok where a lot of Thai people go there to see wild elephants.

There are approximately 200 elephants live peacefully in that National Park. In the video you can see the wild elephants are very protective, they have to make sure that there is not things would harm their herd. One elephant just walked in the middle of street to make sure every things is okay for other elephants who walk behind.

This is I regarded as the luckiest chance to see the elephants in the wild as Asian elephants and African elephants are much different. Wild African elephant you can see them in the safari tours in Africa, but wild Asian elephant is very difficult to see them in the wild as they are very protective animal... I wish some day I will have a chance to see them real in the wild..

Sincerest thanks,
Supat Sutti

I am very sick now....

Sometime I think I am very strong and work like horses, but I just realized about my health is very poor after working so hard since we start the mahout training course in May... I just work without weekend or day off.

The first things to do when I get up from the bed is to turn on computer and brush my teeth, and then pick up my camera and take the scooter to the home stay accommodation to get the tourists to collect the elephants in the forest with the mahouts. I did like this every morning and I really enjoy it even first wake up I feel very drowsy after walking for a little while I feel better. But today I feel slight fever and a little headache but I am okay till I walked back to bath elephant, I just left tourists with the mahout and rushed to the room to sleep as I feel worse and worse, so I can not get up from my bed at all. Today I did not go to work anymore.

I found myself that I have very high fever. I did not get sick easily but I am sick, it becomes worse and I feel very bad too. I feel like there is stone in my head, I have no energy at all. So I slept a whole day today, now I feel a little better as when I check email today I got a lot of email to reply and I do not want to store so I have to bit my teeth and work.

I can not imagine how hard i work in the past as I did take care of the tourists as coordinator, went to the market to buy foods for the tourists, cooked dinner for them, I did all every thing alone at the camp.. Vow sound is not hard but it was very hard job for me. But I really enjoyed what I did for the tourists as I did not feel like working, this is my home and I am a host not horse. I think I need to take the rest for a while, but I do not know when I can take day off as the three day and two day mahout training course is fully booked in August, and seem in September is nearly fully booked too.

But I am so happy as Leah our friend of elephant who wrote some comments on the site about missing her time here...

I wish I am getting back to normal health again soon..
Take care yourself do not let it worse like me.

My name is Mojo????

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
I just want to keep up updating the website so you guys can see what happen at Thai Elephant Conservation Center.. Because I realize that there are so many people keep watching the website almost every day..

It' pretty sad that my English writing is not very good as English Native Speaker or the professional writer.. I just wrote what I know and from my feeling. Maybe I am too stupid not learn English very hard at the University. So this is all I learn from the past..

I named this topic " My name is Mojo" as Jojo he is very charming elephant at the camp, he is like very handsome man which is surrounded by all women (Jojo currently has three girl friends at the camp) As every where he walks, there will be Pang Kod and Prachaub will always following him.

I do not know it was true or not that elephant is like their mahout. For example in the past Swang the mahout of Jojo when he took his elephant back into the forest he always use his telephone to call the woman and I do not know who he was calling to and when I observe how Jojo behave to the female elephant ( Jojo do not have phone haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa) Jojo always walks behind the female elephant and sniff on them. I think some of you guys know what Jojo behave right???

These photos on this topic were taken yesterday when we gave certificate of appreciation to our tourists in three day mahout training course during 31- 2 of August, there were 5 tourists from Ireland.. Honestly I am very jealous of Jojo was kissed by Mary.. I want to replance Jojo as me haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa...

IMG_7083
Just leaving the camp to Chiang Mai to day after joining our two day mahout training course during 2-3 of August 2008, Andrej, Hannas, and lovely boy Thomas and lovely daughter Sofia from Belgium...

It seems two day mahout training course is too short for some people who really loves elephants, Thomas had to make his mind for a little while before leaving the camp.. as he was crying when he was on his elephant " Wanna"..

They are very lovely and first family from Belgium who join our mahout training course this years... Hannas their mother told me after the course finished this is more than they expected..

So I will add their photos on the gallery afterward as I need to writing some article of mahout and his elephant and it will be finished soon.

IMG_8222
Thank you very much for 31-2 August Mary Gleeson, Tara Kelly,  Karla Kelly, Michelle Reidy, Sarah Kelly from Ireland in joining the three day mahout training course at Thai Elephant Conservation Center.. I took this picture this morning as Karla is standing up on her elephant.

So in the afternoon they just left the camp and continue their trip in Chiang Mai for one more that and then they will fly to the south of Thailand..

IMG_6951

I am going to add their photos on the gallery tonight..
I just came back from the forest to pick up the elephants with the tourists in  three day mahout training course. They are very lovely people from Ireland and other from Holland.

I was pretty heavy rain last night at the camp so all elephants covered them self with sticky muddy which means it 's very difficult to clean it off elephant..

Prachaub is one of muddiest elephant in this morning..   Any one misses Prachuab?????

IMG_6393
I personally recommended all tourists to join our mahout training course in rainy season as the elephants love to be in the rain and the rain brings them plenty of foods and clean water..

Like yesterday I brought our elephants into the forest with very green forest areas.. All elephants are very happy which you can notice when the elephants keep flapping their tail and ears which to show they are very happy and healthy.. So what to make elephant happy such as cool weather, plenty of food and clean water, good care of mahout and good friends.

I was told by some one long time ago that the elephants won't get sick easily as they are very powerful and strong animal. If they are very sick, it must be from hard work and some diseases only..  And I used to read one book about wild elephants have longer life span and they could die from starvation as the elephants change six set of their teeth or molars in their life so losing their teeth of molars could restrict them from eating various foods. This is what I wrote from the book..

IMG_5527

Look it's very green grazing area..

IMG_5554

Pang Kod she is very happy as she has very green bamboo trees around here..

Need my help? Prathida
