IMG_5604
I just add some photos of lovely family from Sweden Patrik, Janet and their two lovely boy Jonathan, Benjamin in our three day mahout training course during 28-30 of November..

Actually this family is supposed and booked for our three day course on 10-12 of December, but they can not fly any where because of demonstration in Bangkok so they just traveled in the North of Thailand and then changed their travel schedule to join our course during this time.

Any way it seems the trouble in BKK does not give big impact to the camp at all as we have only a couple people postpones their trip not to travel this time and they will come back when every thing is settle down.

I wish this will not last for longer as it will make every thing bad and all mahouts always talks about it. Our life at Thai Elephant Conservation Center and other place are based on tourism.

Stop it.

Just want to say big thank for Peter from Switzerland who comes a long to join our two day mahout training course. This is his fourth time with his beloved elephant " Jojo " :P

This time Peter has short holiday so he just joined our two day course only, but anyway he will be back in the future with his son Louis as told by Peter today before leaving.

Peter is great people, he has a lot of sense of humor and always talking about Joke, especially he can speak Thai  a little bit. I think he can speak good Thai, if you stay in Thailand for a little longer and he can learn Thai from Thai people, as Peter is very friendly. May be he is too friendly haaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

Thank anyway Peter. " Poom Pui"

Peter Maag is big friend of Jojo

Jojo is real Mojo..

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
It seems Jojo becomes hot topics on the website as I can not stand to show every one how sweet he is.. Many many people ready knows about him.

Today there were several Japanese tourists visited the camp in the morning, some of them are very very pretty looking and and try to touch the elephants. They are scared of touching the elephants, some of them screams like touch cobra or tigers. So I told them to take some photos with Jojo and they are really scared to do it, then they can get rid of their nerve. After that I told them to hug Jojo like we did at the camp and one girl she dared to hug the trunk of Jojo. Jojo he just stand still and looks very photogenic.

This is about Jojo today..I wish you will love it.

Just added some video of the tourists who just left the camp the day before yesterday in our three day mahout training course..during 25-27 of November 2008..

Mahout Training Course from mahout on Vimeo.
I still remember when one of my tourist said about Jojo on the first day, she requested Jojo as her elephant for the three day mahout training course when she first met Jojo..

Vow it's big and the end of the three day she hugged Jojo and said my " Boy"

Personally I really love Jojo as he is big boy and strong, but he is very gentle and calm and he can fit to every one at the camp like little boy, fat or old tourist.

It was pretty hot today  while we went to visit the baby elephant and elephant hospital, I just grab this photo while some tourists enjoyed riding on the elephant on the howdah.

IMG_3043
Every day when the shows is finished all elephant have to go into the forest to stay there one night, all mahouts will put the long chain on the neck of their elephants. Pum he told me that it took only one hour to teach Kaew to put on his own neck.

So each elephant has their own talent and skill, some learn thing very quickly and some take a little longer to learn.

Mahout's routine...

Taun is one of my great friend who always meet me at the camp every day, he is one of  great mahout who look after Orphaned elephant " Pong " donated  from Bangkok since I started working at the camp over ten year ago and I saw his elephant since he is very very little.

I remember very well when I first went to the forest about 9 years ago to collect Pong in the forest and I was hit on my head by the chain of Pong while I was standing other side of elephant and Taun I did know I was there and he threw the chain over the neck of elephant and hit my head. It was painful and still remain in my brain. hhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. It served me???.. How silly I am?? Since there I never stand other side of elephant when the mahout throwing the chain over the head of their elephant.

Kham Po disabled elephant under treatment at the elephant hospital, she has abscesses on her left cheek and right front leg. He was in the Elephant Rehabilitation Center which is about 50 Km. away from the camp. Recently she got operation on the abscesses and now our vets provide good care of her at the Elephant Hospital. And the would from operation is getting better and better. Kham Po she was donated to the camp more than ten year and still living happily with deformed leg.

Elephant Hospital
Actually I added this video a couple day ago, but I found some setting when I uploaded on vimeo.com which give me standard view and now I found how to make a better quality. I wish you will love it.

This sick elephants has abscess one on their right leg and other one on her left seek are enjoying eating the rice that we give them every day. All elephants love to eat rice with shells and it gives elephant more energy.

I gave up painting when I realize that elephant does paining better than mine.

IMG_1549
Just bought new HD camcorder recently from internet with very good price and then rushed to the forest to test it.

As I really want to work every day to show every one what is happening at Thai Elephant Conservation Center.. I wish every one will enjoy watching the video every day at home.

Video test on new camcorder. from mahout on Vimeo.
Hi every one I am still working and will try to add photo on the website every day.. It 's very busy over here as it's high season in the North of Thailand.. Every day there are so many tourists visited the camp every day for a day trip and I have about ten tourists in three day course every day. So I will not take any day off till the beginning of January as I do not want to miss to meet every one who booked the course already. Hopefully I will see every one here.

Dr. Onn and Wendy have been visiting and joining our mahout training course every year so far and this time is their 4st times with us. So this time they brought their lovely sons and daughter in law to join our course too.

So I arranged them six day course with the same elephant of last year Prachaub is Dr. Onn and Wanalee for Wendy. I think they love the way we are looking elephants and they love to visit our old friends mahout.

Here is some video that I took for Dr Onn's camera.

Dr. Onn and his family in six day course from mahout on Vimeo.
After taking off the mahout 's suit, we can not recognize this guy is working as the mahout who always makes every one happy. John has been working at the Thai Elephant Conservation Center since we initiated the camp about sixteen years ago. One of the vet who was retired from his job told me that he saw John since he was a little boy at the Elephant Rehabilitation Center at Baan Pang Lah where our current camp was there before.

IMG_9119
Just finished added latest video of the Floating Candle and Lantern Ceremony at Thai Elephant Conservation Center. All ceremony and celebration was done by the mahouts and their family. We quite have small Celebration, but in main tourist attraction like in Chiang Mai, Sukhothai and Bangkok might be very big celebration.

This time actually I planed to be in Chiang Mai with my HD camcorder and DSLR, but my camcorder is being shipped to Thailand, I think I will get it within one week.

Second Video of Floating Candle Ceremony.. from mahout on Vimeo.
Here is some video of Floating Candle Ceremony at  Thai Elephant Conservation Center last night, our tourists in three day course also joined this ceremony with the mahouts and their families. This ceremony includes Floating Candle at the lake and release the Lantern to the sky, every one who joined this ceremony they made wish on this things and floated the bad lucks to the river and released it to the sky.

And some Thai people they make apology to the goddess of the river what they have done to the river.

I took the tourists to join this festival last night and every one has great time with the mahout community. In Chiang Mai they held big ceremony, but in the camp we just make it small and special, we have Karaoke and some mahouts sang a songs last night to make this festival wonderful.

I make wish for every one too when I float the Candle and the lantern.

Floating Candle Ceremony at Thai Elephant Conservation Center. from mahout on Vimeo.
John is cheekiest mahout at the camp.. He is very funny mahout and has a lot of sense of humor, I think many people already know him very well, if you have been at the camp before. John always makes every one happy at the camp.

I wish this photos will make you happy and have great day.

Found a nice spot for Prathida this morning after finished drink of water.. It was pretty chilly cool as you can see stream from the water as the background.

IMG_8692
It seems the weather is changing and dropping very quickly, we can see the dews remained on the top on the grasses  in the morning while are are coming back to the camp. The darkness  at night falls very early in the evening and still dark at six O' clock.

I really hate this season as I like to be under the blanket as long as I can, but my work won't let me wake up late. But this season is great for photography as the light in the morning is perfect.

IMG_8607
Went to visit Baby elephant this evening and took some shot of her, today it seems the weather is very chilly cold. The weather in North of Thailand is dropping quickly, this morning is pretty chilly while we were going to pick up the elephant.

Now our cool and dry season is starting till the end of February.

IMG_8428

IMG_8491
Some mahout at the camp always talks very loudly to his elephant, but actaully they are very kind to his elephant. Like this mahout he looks after his elephant long time ago and now his elephant is getting older and the digestion system of his elephant is poorer so he has to feed his elephant with soft and gentle banana so every day he has to take banana for his elephant in the morning.
